GOSO’s App for Auto Dealers Streams Inventory to Facebook – Social media marketer GOSO unveiled a new Facebook app this week that allows auto dealers to connect their inventory to their Facebook page. The  BMW of Minnetonka, Minnesota is the first dealership to use it. Could Google’s phone be available as early as next week?

An internal T-Mobile memo from 12/29,

“Google, with support from T-Mobile, is scheduled to launch a new Android device in early January.
The Google Android phone will be sold solely by Google via the Web.”

What will the new Google Phone cost (sold only direct through Google) without a service contract?

Google, beyond its statement about dogfooding the other day, remains tight-lipped.

So what do we actually know?

- that Google employees are trialling an experimental new handset
- that it’s called Nexus One, and it’s made by HTC
- that it’s been approved by US regulators with support for GSM and T-Mobile’s 3G network
- that Google has registered Nexus One as a trademark in relation to phones
- that Google has plans to sell it, unlocked, directly on the web

Excerpt from Channel 7 news Santa Clara, CA – Teresa Garcia

SANTA CLARA, CA (KGO) — A South Bay business has now found an innovative way to use the hottest trend in social networking to help keep the business growing.

The Pizza Party parlor in Santa Clara has been spinning pizza pies in one shape or another since 1962.

“We have so many different varieties,” said co-owner Bear Silber, who joined the restaurant in the last six months, but is already diving head in to modernize this nearly half century old business.
“You can find us on Facebook; we’re on Twitter,” said Silber.

This is a sign of the next generation of marketing.

“I’m young. I’m only 26, and I use the Internet everyday anyways,” said Silber.

Silber swears by using online social networking tools, like Twitter and Facebook, as a fresh, free, and fast way to market his small business.

“Immediately when I have an idea, I can tweet it,” said Silber.

Pizza Party already has more than 1,000 followers on Twitter and Silber sends them instant messages about different meal deals and other incentives to come in.

“On Super Bowl Sunday, whoever came in wearing their team’s jersey got free pizza,” said Silber. “Sharks games, same thing,. I’ll do the same thing. I’ll put those out on my Twitter.”.

It has become a marketing and advertising tool that is beginning to help increase business, especially critical during this rocky economy.

Silber says social media can be useful for many types of businesses. The challenge is to think, and act, outside-the-box.

“Especially within the traditional mom and pop pizza parlor, they’re so used to Yellow Page ads, doorbell hangers. These old, old marketing things that in my mind aren’t successful,” said Silber.

But it’s not just Twitter and Facebook that has catapulted Pizza Party into the 21st century. Silber has even developed a way for customers to connect by iPhone.

“We actually have an icon here. It’s its own app. It’s an iPhone app,” said Silber.

And if you really want to feel connected with your pizza, visit www.pizzapartyonline.com from a computer or a mobile phone, and you can watch your pizza being made live on three different cameras. Now that is one modern way to get your customers drooling.

Google Goggles is a visual search app for Android phones. Instead of using words, take a picture of an object with your camera phone: we attempt to recognize the object, and return relevant search results. Goggles also provides information about businesses near you by displaying their names directly in the camera preview.

Focusing on lead generation

Beginning this year, Piper Jaffray sees local online advertising spending outpacing the national spend in the US.

In 2008, national and local spending levels were equal. But while the research firm projects a drop in national online ad spending for 2009, local is expected to increase by 5%.

Over the next five years, Piper Jaffray predicts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9% for local online ad dollars, compared with 4% for national Internet spending.

Borrell Associates, on the other hand, forecasts only a 2.9% CAGR for local online ad spending over the next five years. Borrell puts spending at $16.4 billion in 2013, compared with $19.18 billion for Piper Jaffray.

While Borrell believes the local online market is approaching saturation, Piper Jaffray indicates in its report that small businesses will begin to catch up with consumers online, bringing significant growth to the local online sector and moving local dollars from offline to the Web.

Piper Jaffray considers lead generation the primary goal of local advertising, and suggests that mobile presents a major opportunity on that front. With online search the preferred method to find local business info, and consumers highly connected to their mobile phones, especially during the weekends, the research firm predicts huge growth in mobile search spending through 2012.

“Local lead gen companies will play a key role in bringing small businesses into mobile advertising,” according to the report. “Small businesses need to understand that mobile can be as valuable a channel as online and lead gen players be the educators.”

Google Social Search

How will Google handle searches within the social network of an individual?

Individuals must have a google account and a google profile with a list of all of the social networks they are registered on.

If Google knows who your friends and family are, they can make image search, product search, web search, much more personalized.

How will personalized search change the search results & relevancy?

For many, handing over such data to Google can seriously improve the ‘relevancy’ of many of their search queries. But those worried about privacy should realize that for Google to get this information, you probably need to provide it.

Check out this video of Google’s Social Search labs project that should launch in the next couple of weeks.

BIG NEWS it seems that Google is making room for it’s new local business ads by taking 3 local business listings off of the 10-box and reducing it to a 7-box. This makes it more competitive now to get into the top spots in Google’s local business results. The display is less cluttered and cleaner looking but once again limits valuable real estate and ups the ante on ranking.

Do you know how to optimize your Google Local Business listing to get into the new 7 box?
